KEMI and Global School Leaders join forces to strengthen school leadership and improve educational outcomes across Kenya.
NAIROBI, Sunday November 8 2026 – The Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) and Global School Leaders (GSL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant milestone in their shared commitment to strengthening school leadership and improving educational outcomes.
The partnership brings together KEMI’s institutional mandate, expertise, and established capacity to implement educational leadership development programmes, and GSL’s strengths in professional development, research, and the development of networks and coalitions.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officers of both institutions, Dr. Maurice Odondo (KEMI) and Ms Camila Pereira – GSL (participating virtually), represented by Mr. Abraham Okumba, emphasised the strategic importance of the partnership, recognising that while GSL primarily supports leadership development through research, professional development and collaborative networks rather than direct programme implementation, KEMI provides the institutional mandate, structures, and implementation capacity necessary to translate these initiatives into practice.
Both CEOs underscored the complementary strengths of the two institutions and reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging the partnership to advance evidence-based leadership development, research, knowledge sharing, and sustainable improvements in school leadership across Kenya and beyond.

The Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) is the capacity building agency for the Ministry of Education, established under Legal Notice No. 19 of 2010. It is mandated to provide management training, conduct research and offer consultancy services to both public and private sectors.
