The Training Department is established pursuant to Sections 4( a), (b),  (g); and  15 (5) of the Legal Notice No. 19 of 12th February, 2010. It is responsible for coordinating training programs and activities in the Institute.

The functions of the department include:

  • Initiating the development, implementation and review of training policies and strategies.
  • Designing, developing and implementting training programs;
  • Formulating strategies for review of training programs for continual improvement;
  • Initiating the process of establishing training needs;
  • Overseeing implementation of findings of TNA recommendations in relation to training programmes;
  • Spearheading development of training programmes;
  • Designing tailor made training programs to suit the needs of specific clients;
  • Establishing linkages and collaboration for the institute training programmes;
  • Spearheading the development of instructional support resources;
  • Overseeing the delivery of trainings;
  • Overseeing admission of participants into training programmes;
 
  • Coordinating research in the training department;
  • Overseeing implementation of quality management systems in the training function;
  • Establishing quality management system for effective implementation of training programs;
  • Developing strategies in response to capacity development survey findings;
  • Coordinating development and review of training programs in response to research findings;
  • Spearheading development, implementation and review of systems and standards for assessment and certification of course participants;
  • Providing advisory on matters relating to training function;
  • Overseeing development, implementation and review of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programs;
  • Formulating strategies for e-learning 
  • Promoting appropriate utilization of technologies in the training function;
  • Initiating the establishment of e-learning infrastructure.
  • Overseeing the production of multimedia interactive instructional support resources.
  • Initiating development, implementation and review of online programs; and
  • Spearheading the development, implementation and review of training programs on leadership and governance.
