KEMI in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, has commenced the KEMIS Training of Trainers (TOT) training workshop at Kyaka Hotel in Machakos, marking a significant milestone for the nationwide rollout of the digital education management platform.

The six-day intensive training, running from 22nd to 31st December 2025, is being facilitated by trainers, who are members of the KEMIS training technical working group drawn from KEMI, MOE, and KONZA Technopolis Development Authority, reflecting a multi-agency approach to digitizing Kenya’s education sector. The opening session was officially presided over by Mr. Fredrick Mujumba, Director of the KEMIS Directorate, and KEMI CEO-Dr Maurice Odondo who underscored the urgency and importance of mastering the system.

In his opening speech, Mr. Mujumba remarked that the role of TOTs is pivotal. “You must internalize every module, understand its functionality, and be ready to train Heads of Institutions nationwide. This is the foundation for seamless, real-time education data management in Kenya.” He emphasized.

The participants are undergoing hands-on sessions covering core KEMIS modules including Institution Registration, Learner Enrollment, User Management, and Reporting Tools as well as Zoom orientation for blended delivery. Practical exercises, plenary feedback sessions, and the development of actionable implementation plans form the backbone of the curriculum.

Upon completion of this TOT training workshop, the TOTS will be expected to cascade the training to the principals of senior schools, heads of institutions, teachers, and other cadres of education officers. This is expected to create a unified, integrated education database to enhance data accuracy and comparability, improve policy decision-making, and strengthen the overall efficiency of Kenya’s education management systems.
