Upgrading Education Degree Training Program

Eleven universities sponsored their faculty of education staff for the ‘Upgrading Education Degree training program’ that was newly introduced by the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).

These universities included:-

  1. Dedan Kimathi University
  2. Karatina University
  3. Kenya Methodist University
  4. Riara University
  5. Masinde Muliro University
  6. Masai Mara University
  7. University of Nairobi
  8. Kisii University
  9. Scott University
  10. Daystar University
  11. Machakos University

This training program was designed by KEMI to enhance the quality of the Bachelor and Master of Education degree programs offered by the universities.

The program provided the education faculty staff with new knowledge related to education policy, methodology, administration and contemporary issues.

By the end of the training program the university faculty staff became aware of new education policies, legislation, regulations and reforms; new education models; current research on literacy and numeracy; labor market needs; and emerging issues in the education sector.

The feedback from the participants was enlightening. It was recommended that further workshops be held between education stakeholders and education faculty staff towards reviewing of the education degree programs.

Others strongly felt that there was need for comprehensive research to determine the deficiencies in the education degree programs being offered in the universities.

An emerging concern among the education faculty staff was the negative behavior of teachers in our schools; with some indicating that ethics should be taught at the universities.
